There’s a pretty cool app for the iPhone and iPad that’s supposed to improve your life and your self-esteem. Here’s to trying! The app is called 101 Revolutionary Ways to Be Healthy,” and, per its name, offers 101 methods for improving your life.
The app is unusual because there is no unfortunate synonymy swapping of healthy for thin. Instead, the different healthy ideas mainly focus on loving yourself and learning to appreciate what you have.
Here are some of the most inspiring ideas from the website:
#20. Aim for 85%. This rule is a good one for those of us who like to eat chocolate ice cream after a mixed green salad dinner. The idea is that you try to be healthy in your eating and exercise habits 85% of the time, allowing for 15% of the time to be free time where you live a little.
#40. Drink a lot of H2O. We all know that we should be drinking more water, but #40 reminds us that our metabolisms, immunity and energy levels suffer without enough water. Keep a thermos of water by your bed and at your desk at work.
#49. Look beyond unrealistic role models. The reminder that supermodels don’t eat and celebrities in fashion magazines are airbrushed cannot be reiterated often enough. If we hope for model abs or taut, lean arms like we see on the red carpet, we can wish and try forever for a body that we’ll never have. What kind of life is that?
#75. Be your own biggest fan. Love yourself. Belittling that extra roll on your stomach or mousy hair color isn’t going to make you any happier. In fact, consistent self-deprecation wreaks havoc on your self-esteem. Focus on what you like about yourself and your body rather than fixating on what you want to change.
#83. Build on your successes. Remember the positives in your journey, and use your failures as reasons to grow, not fixations.
#92. Follow your bliss. This number reminds us that we should figure out the time in our lives during which we were happiest, and try to recreate that time. Perhaps we have already found what would make us the healthiest; scientists have proven that it is happiness.
#97. Focus on action, not outcomes. The journey is the important part, not the destination. Pay attention to the landmarks along the way.
