To start us off, here are ten health tips for you today:
10. Are you getting enough water? Water is important for preventing fatigue, keeping skin hydrated, warding off common daily ailments like headaches and backaches, and a multitude of other benefits. A lot of times, we eat when we are actually thirsty—so drinking enough water can also help you lose weight. To see how much water you need in a day, use this calculator.
9. Fill up on fiber. Fiber can help prevent diseases like cancer and diabetes, ward off constipation, and help you lose weight. Here are some great ways to get your daily intake of fiber.
8. Quit smoking. It’s one of the best things you can do for your health—as well as for the health around you! If you need help, try getting some help here.
7. Keep your air healthy. Not smoking will help you achieve this, but so will various air purifiers, whether mechanical or plant-based. Just by adding a plant or two to your home, you can reduce allergies and the amount of benzene, formaldehyde, and other harmful chemicals in your air.
6. Your sexual health is important, too. Be sure to get regular exams, and take care if you are sexually active by using protection. If you are a young sexually active woman, you may wish to consider a vaccination to protect you against HPV.
5. Keep your brain active. Studies show that exercising your brain can help improve your memory, as well as stave off mental decline. You can do this easily every day, whether you do something creative—from taking a pottery class to brushing your teeth with the opposite hand—or something more intellectual, like one of these brain games.
4. Don’t forget about your spiritual health! Meditation, prayer and other spiritual exercises can help you lose weight, lower your blood pressure, and control stress. Try this free e-course for some suggested daily spiritual practices, or start your own.
3. Eat a rainbow. This doesn’t mean to go out and gorge on skittles! By eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables—some green, red, blue, orange, yellow and white—you can create a healthful diet full of variety that will also help your body fight aging and dementia.
2. Get a pet. Cats and dogs can help lower stress, and be good friends as well. Fish are also known to help calm your nerves. To find a furry friend near you, try searching here.
1. Move your body. Most adults require at least 150 minutes of exercise every week for a healthy lifestyle. If the idea of exercise repulses you, try dancing, playing outdoor games with your children or one of these creative ideas.
Here’s to your health!
