For those of us who cannot live without a morning cup of coffee, and an afternoon one, not to mention brunch and somewhere in between, finding benefits to coffee is just another way to make us feel better about our addiction. According to the Huffington Post, there are some little known benefits to coffee that just might be enough to rid you of your guilt over your vice, and will at least give you a quick comeback for the coffee naysayer in your life.

Now here’s one I can get behind. Women who drink “a few cups” of joe have a lower risk of depression. Perhaps that’s why my coffee intake goes up in the winter – less sun means a greater need to get my happy elsewhere!

Coffee has an as-yet unidentified factor that boosts a growth hormone known to fight off Alzheimer’s. Studies have so far been completed on mice, but that research is exciting for Alzheimer’s sufferers.
Lower Risk of Certain Prostate Cancer
Here’s one for the guys: Drinking six cups of coffee can reduce the risk of a particular form of prostate cancer by up to 60 percent, and lower the overall risk for prostate cancer by about 20 percent.
Lower Risk of Basal Cell Carcinoma
This skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the world, and coffee may be a factor in keeping it at bay.
Lower Risk of Type 2 Diabetes
The more coffee you drink, the more it can decrease your risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a review of studies performed by the Archives of Internal Medicine.
Lower Risk of Parkinson’s Disease
Coffee is also credited with lowering the risk of Parkinson’s disease by up to 25 percent, with the optimal “dosage” being two to three cups per day.
So if you needed another reason (or seven) to keep drinking that coffee, now you can be guilt free while enjoying what is arguably the world’s best beverage.
