You know, I worry a lot about talking on a cell phone. My particular cell phone emits a higher radiation than most, so I always try to use a headset and keep it away from my body. I worry about cordless phones too, but we have eliminated the landline here. One thing that never occurred to me to be worried about is the Wi-Fi signal on my laptop. According to researchers in Argentina, the Wi-Fi signal on laptop computers kills sperm at a higher rate than sperm cells not in close proximity to a laptop.
The study, which was reported in medical journal Fertility and Sterility, describes how sperm was placed beneath a laptop and in another location at the same temperature but away from laptops. The sperm under the laptop died at a rate of 25 percent, while only 14 percent of the sperm in the other location died. That is a pretty big difference!
Researches also conducted a second test with a laptop not connected to the Internet, and the results appear to conclude that the Wi-Fi connection is the culprit.
There isn’t enough data to suggest we should stop using laptops, but it sure does raise some concerns about the safety of all of that radiation near such sensitive parts. Being pregnant myself, it makes me wonder if I should be taking some precautions until the baby is born.
It will be interesting to see if further studies show the same results and if there is a way to safely counter the radiation emitted from our laptops, because I really don’t see many of us ditching the ‘top anytime soon.
